NIGERIAN ARMY DESTROYS OVER TWO HUNDRED ILLEGAL REFINERIERS IN NIGER DELTA REGION

General Officer Commanding GOC, Six Division Nigerian Army Port Harcourt, Major General Jamal Abdussalam says troops of the Division have destroyed Two hundred and thirty-three illegal refineries in Niger Delta Region.

 Major General Abdussalam who made this known while declaring open West African Social Activities, WASA, at Port Harcourt Barracks Rivers State, added that within the period also, over one thousand, one hundred vandals were arrested, while many petroleum trucks used for illegal oil deals were confiscated. 

The GOC who explained that WASA is a social activity to integrate soldiers, their families and civilian populace together, described it as a transition time, marking the end of the previous year’s activities and beginning of a new era. 

According to Major General Abdussalam who is also the Land Component Commander, South-South, Operation Delta Safe, within the period under review, officers were subjected to several training regimen to sharpen their professional skills. 

On his part, Governor of Rivers State, sir Siminalayi Fubara who acknowledged that Nigeria Army has continued to confront criminality in the state and entire country, pledged the support of state government to Nigerian Army. 

 Represented by Secretary to State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, the governor insisted that the strength of the nation depends on unity of different ethnic groups as displayed by participants.

The Governor however asked the Army to sustain the tempo in the quest to root out oil theft in the State. 

 Side attractions at the event included, Presentation of awards, display by different ethnic dance troupes, Tug of war between Soldiers’ wives and female Corps members.
