STAKEHOLDERS ADVOCATE MORE GENDER BASED REPORTAGE

Journalists have been called upon to be pragmatic in reporting gender and other vulnerable issues.

This was handed down in a one day workshop for media professionals in Port Harcourt organized to stem the tide of gender stereotypes on social and cultural inclusion.

A Lawyer, Mrs. Rosemary Inko-Dokubo, urged Journalists and any woman facing any form of abuse, to take advantage of the legal provisions in the State to address the menace.

Ace Journalist and Rights Advocate Chief Constance Meju, on her part, wants the society to be deliberate in respecting the rights of women.

While stressing that women are also affected by National policies, Chief Meju said women should be main streamed into the policy.

Director, Kebetkache women Development and Resource Centre, Dr. Emem Okon, in an interview, decried the level of backwardness that gender barrier and poor level of social inclusion, has relegated the Country to.

Dr. Emem Okon who was also the convener of the forum, wants a collaboration between the Nation, State and local arms of Government, in the fight against gender bias.

Two participants at the workshop, Marian Daniels from Uyo and Ugochukwu Iwuchukwu from Port Harcourt, both expressed preparedness to reflect gender angle and the effect of oil exploitation in their reportage.
