Managing Director Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku has described peace as a very important factor to the development of Niger Delta region.
Dr. Ogbuku who made this known while hosting ex-agitators Presidential Amnesty Programme in his office at NDDC headquarters in Marine Base Port Harcourt Rivers State, maintained that agitation has gone beyond arm struggle into intellectual engagement and dialogue.
The courtesy call by the first, second and third phases of ex agitators Presidential Amnesty programme, was in continuation of the consultation with stakeholders in the region by the management of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
Addressing the delegation, the Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku emphasized the need of peace in the region to pave way for investors to come in and create job opportunities.
While acknowledging the contributions of the group in the creation of the commission, the MD stressed the need to navigate to intellectual engagement in seeking their rights.
The Chief Executive Officer who regretted that some companies have left the region due to insecurity, cautioned against wrong usage of the social media to demarket the region.
While condemning oil bunkering which he identified as detrimental to the environment, Dr. Ogbuku warned that pipeline vandalism would endanger future generation.
He assured them of Federal Government’s commitment to roll out programmes that would assuage the hardship in the land.
Earlier on, as leaders of different phases of the group took turns to speak, National Secretary of the first phase of the ex agitators Amnesty Programme, Nature Kieghe who noted that the hike in fuel prise has had an adverse effect on the people of Niger Delta region stated that NDDC also has a role to play in the ex agitators’ well beung.
On his part, the Leader of the third phase, General Tonye Bobo assured that they have taken to peace and called on the President to end Inceasant changes in the leadership of NDDC.
The group unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the Managing Director.
High point of the event was conferment of Top performance excellent leadership award on Dr Ogbuku.
