MANAGEMENT COMMITS TO FORMULATING POLICIES WITH POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE COMMISSION AND NIGER DELTA REGION

The Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku  says the management is committed to making policies that will have positive impact on the people of Niger Delta region. 

Dr. Ogbuku who made this known while declaring open Training   programme for staff  at  Director’s level in Port Harcourt Rivers State, enjoined  participants to leverage on the training and acquire relevant  knowledge to  pass across to junior staff. 

Policy making and implementation plays a key role in the progress of any organization.

Policy failures and implementation problems are common features  of badly crafted policies. 

To guard against the negative effect  of wrong policies, the training for staff at directors level with the theme, policy making and security management was put up to expose partipants on  the processes involved in policy making and implementation so as to achieve set objectives. 

Speaking while declaring open the training, the Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku noted that as an interventionist agency, if the policies are right it would  boost the development of the communities which the commission is meant to serve, but if the policies are wrong, the set goals may not be achieved. 

Represented by the Executive Director Finance and Administration, retired Major General Charles Airhiavbere, the managing director emphasized the importance of policy directions in the commission. 

In a lecture on the topic, Public Policy formation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, one of the facilitators, Dr. Ademola Lawal who stressed the importance of problem identification using data, before policy formation, maintained that policies and bound to fail if they were  beyond the control of policy makers. 

Dr. Lawal insisted on the need to follow up policies and ensure full compliance. 

On her part, one of the participants, Assistant Director, Media relations Mrs. Mary Nwaeke observed that the training was  apt for the staff as they go about making policies and decisions towards the development of Niger Delta communities. 

Mrs. Nwaeke applauded management for organizing the training to arm participants with relevant knowledge in policy and formation implementation
