Africa Women wants the Government to take deliberate steps in addressing Climate crisis in the Continent,
They made their positions known at the just concluded Africa Women Climate Assembly in Lagos State, Nigeria.
Women from over fourteen African Countries gathered in a five day summit against climate crisis in the Continent.
From Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, Senegal, South Africa and some more, were stories on oil exploration, mining, deforestation which displaced animals like Elephants, causing them to move into the villages from the forests, a threating situation to lives and property.
In their separate speeches, Lucy from Ghana and her Senegalese counterpart who spoke through an interpreter, encouraged women to be strong in their fight for Climate Justice.
Ebiere Bright from Gelegele community in Edo State, on her part, decried the health hazards her people face as a result of continuous gas flaring in that community for over six decades.
Director Kebetkache Women Development and Resource Centre, Emem Okon, wants fair representation of the plight of the women in Climate meetings.
While receiving the comunique at the close of the conference, Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwolu, represented by his Special Adviser on climat change, Titi Oshodi assured the women of his support in the struggle for Climate justice
The 2023 Africa Women Climate Assembly which was organized by Kebetkache Women Development and Resource Centre, WOMIN and some other Non-Governmental Organizations in Africa also employed poetry, drama and songs to drive home their demands.
