RESIDENTS OF NKPOR DECRY HARSH WEATHER CONDITION

Residents of Nkpor, in Rumuolumeni, have lamented the level of heat that is being generated in the atmosphere.

They made their opinion known in an interview with our correspondent in Nkpor community.

Experts say the heat has been intense following the depletion of the ozone layer by activities of multinational Companies and other unhealthy environmental practices, including the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the environment, especially around the Niger Delta region.

In an interview on how some residents of Rivers State cope with the change in weather, two proprietresses in Nkpor, Mrs. Yemi Adetoluwa, decried the loss of voice she suffered as a result of cough and other health conditions from the harsh weather, Mrs. Gift Samuel and a trader, Mrs. Rose Charles, called on Power Holding Electricity Distribution Company, PHEDC to ensure that there is regular electricity power supply in the State to alleviate the suffering occasioned by the heat.

Also speaking on the state of the climate, a cleric, who is also a worker at the Federal Secretariat in Port Harcourt, Mr. Samuel Adetoluwa, suggested some ways that could ease the effect of the harsh weather.

Mr. Adetoluwa also told Radio Nigeria that with regards to waste management, the environment was better in the year 2023 and called for intentional approach in managing wastes in the State.

The Cleric also called on the government and other stakeholders, to stop gas flaring and take measures to restore the ecosystem.
