DIVERSIFICATION OF THE COUNTRY’S ECONOMY FOR FOOD SECURITY ADVOCATED

The Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending, NIRSAL Plc says the need for the diversification of the country’s economy and the desire to ensure food security is the driving force for the body to ensure Agricultural businesses get the needed assistance.

The Managing Director, Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending NIRSAL Plc, Mr Abbas Masanawa stated this during the Project launch at Globetrot Farmsponsor Nigeria Limited in Obeakpu Ndoki in Oyigbo local government area of Rivers state.

The Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending, NIRSAL Plc which is a Non-Bank Financial Institution wholly-owned by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) created to Redefine, Dimension, Measure, Re-Price and Share agribusiness-related credit risks in Nigeria was in Rivers State to launch the NIRSAL/POLARIS Globetrot Farmsponsors project and also profile the state in terms of its Agricultural potential.

The Managing Director of NIRSAL, Mr Abbas Masanawa in a keynote address said the body has facilitated over two hundred billion naira bills into the Agribusinesses.

Mr Masanawa urged young graduates to think of starting up Agribusiness by accessing facilities through NIRSAL instead of waiting for white collar jobs.

In his submission, the Rivers state commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Victor Kay represented by Mr. Allen Maxwell said the ministry will also do its best to ensure that the Agricultural endowment of the State is properly harnessed.

Earlier, the General Manager of Globertrot Integrated Farms, Ham Sullad-John represented by the Business development and finance manager, Mr. Charles Adigwe while commending the role of NIRSAL in accessing facilities for the farm from Polaris Bank, however called on the Rivers state government to urgently fix the road leading to the area to make transportation of Agricultural produce easy.

The Globetrot Integrated Farm currently houses over thirty six thounsand birds.

Highlight of the launch was a tour of the farm which has the breeding, layer and feed milling sessions amongst others.
