MD NDDC IDENTIFIES LEGAL ADVOCACY AS A KEY FACTOR IN OVERCOMING NIGER DELTA CHALLENGES

Managing Director Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, Dr Samuel Ogbuku  says legal advocacy is very important in overcoming the challenges facing Niger Delta Region.

 Dr. Ogbuku who made the assertion in Port Harcourt Rivers State, while speaking at twenty twenty four Moot Court Competition for law students from Universities in Niger Delta region, enjoined participants to take advantage of the programme to develop capacity in the legal profession.

The Managing Director who stated that the commission has intervened in different aspects of educational development, such as Scholarship schemes, hostel building and  electricity, called for partnership to sustain the competition. 

The MD who  promised that the best performing school would be sponsored for internship in established law firms, told the people that the  commission reactivated foreign post graduate scholarship, which has become successful with fifteen distinctions already recorded in last batch.

Similarly, Former President, Nigerian Bar Association,  Chief  Ocheze (OCJ)  Okocha described  Moot and mock  Competition as being very essential  in training of  law students. 

 Chief Okocha encouraged the students to take training very seriously to be sound in the legal profession. 

He stressed the importance of  legal  contribution to the development of the country. 

In the same vein, Director Legal Services NDDC, Dr.  Stephen Ighomuaye, explained that the competition would enable participants  learn real court situation, employ persuasion and argumentative reasoning. 

On her part,  President  Nigeria Bar Association, Port Harcourt Branch, Mrs.  Cordelia Eke  emphasized the importance of legal education, saying that the profession prepares one for leadership  in various fields. 

She asked  lecturers to instill good courage and knowledge in students  that would  get them ready for the task ahead. 

High point of the event was presentation of  educational materials by Chairman Board of NDDC, Mr. Chiedu Ebie.
