The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has commended the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency and the Board of Ibom Airport Development Company for successfully restoring night operations at Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo.
Governo Eno who gave the commendation at Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, on his return to the state, stated that the milestone will boosts tourism, business, and connectivity as the state continues to rise as Nigeria’s tourism haven under the ARISE Agenda.
Governor Eno congratulated the Board and management of Ibom Airport Development Company for rising to the occasion and ensuring full restoration of the airfield lighting system and navigational aid calibration at the Airport and fulfilling all expected obligations within the set timeline.
The Governor noted that it was another bold step in making Akwa Ibom the nation’s tourism hub, preparation for the inauguration of the ARISE Resorts and other ongoing projects in the aviation and tourism sectors.
According to the Governor, the state owned airline, Ibom Air, and other airlines can now operate day and night to benefit business travelers, aviation stakeholders, and the flying public, offering greater flexibility and improved connectivity to and from the State capital.
In his words, ”I am pleased to announce that night flight operations have been fully restored at Victor Attah International Airport. Last week, I directed the Ibom Airport Development Company to complete the overhaul of navigational aids and lighting systems by September 30, and I am glad to report that the deadline was met.
I commend the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, the MD/CEO, and the Board of the Airport Company for their dedication. With this milestone, our flagship Ibom Air and other airlines can now operate seamlessly, day and night.” he said.
Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructure expansion, announcing plans to increase the state’s road network from 772 kilometres to 1,000 kilometres.
He further assured that contractors would be mobilised back to site this dry season to deliver on the target.
The Governor lauded the State House of Assembly for approving the supplementary budget, describing it as critical to accelerating ongoing road and capital projects.
It could be recalled that the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency had announced the restoration of night flight operations at the Airport, following the successful recalibration of the airport’s navigational aids, airfield lighting, as well as lifting of the Sunset-to-sunrise restrictions.
