
To ensure an effective tax system in Akwa Ibom State, the State Government has enumerated the benefits of the Tax Bills currently under consideration at the State House of Assembly to include relief to the low income earners, promote small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs), as well as boost economic growth in the State.

The Executive Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue (AKIRS), Sir Okon Okon, during a public hearing on three executive bills, which are, Akwa Ibom State Revenue Service and Administration Bill 2025; Akwa Ibom State Taxes and Levies Bill 2025; and Akwa Ibom State Betting and Lottery Regulatory Agency Bill 2025. Said other benefits of the Akwa Ibom State Taxes and Levies Bill 2025 are elimination of multiple taxes, harmonization of tax collection and uniformity in tax administration and rates across the Federation.
On her part the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State house Committee on Finance and Appropriation,Dr Itorobong Etim said the three executive bills when passed into Laws will impact positively in the running of Akwa lbom State Government as they would promote fiscal discipline in government operations, promote effectiveness and efficiency in the revenue generation machinery, enhance transparency and accountability in the management of the State’s resources.
The Speaker of the House, Elder Udeme Otong, who was represented by the Deputy Speaker, KufreAbasi Edidem maintained that the three bills illustrate the Assembly’s preoccupation to deliver a robust and distinct economy, beyond the Civil Service, to Akwa Ibom people.
The Commissioner for Finance, Mr Emem Bob, Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Anthony Luke and CSOs called for a revisit of the draft bill on Akwa Ibom State Taxes and Levies Bill 2025.
