The National Orientation Agency, NOA, has called on pensioners in Akwa Ibom State to leverage on  their vast experience in public service to support and contribute to the success of  government policies and programmes.
Akwa Ibom State Director of the Agency, Mr. Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, made the call at the inauguration of the new executive council of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Contributory Pension Scheme Sector, NUPCPS, Akwa Ibom State chapter.


Mr Mkpoutom, who was represented by the Head of Human Resource Management of  NOA in the state, Dr. Udeme Peter,  emphasized the critical role of pensioners in nation-building, describing them as a “think-tank” whose institutional knowledge and insight can provide strategic guidance for better governance.


Chairman of the newly inaugurated executive council of Union,  Comrade John Udo, pledged to prioritize the welfare of members and ensure their voices are heard in key pension policy discussions.


Also speaking, the National Chairman of NUPCPS, Comrade Sylva Nwaiwu, commended President Bola Tinubu for approving an increase in pension stipends and appealed for its prompt implementation across the board.
He reassured members of the union’s active participation in the national pension reform committee, aimed at securing long-term improvements for retirees.


A labour consultant and Chairman of the event, Comrade Akamba Awah, praised the union for establishing a unified leadership and urged the members to maintain a civil and constructive approach in advocating for their rights and benefits.


The event was attended by a cross-section of dignitaries, including representatives from the Akwa Ibom State Head of Service, Senator Effiong Bob, executives of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners and representatives of Pension Fund Administrators.
