The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has charged corps members to be dedicated in the course of their service delivery and nation building, noting that the nation is counting on their energy, creativity and patriotism.

Governor Eno who gave the charge during the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Batch B Stream 1 at the orientation camp in Nsit Atai Local Government Area, urged them to build on the admirable legacies of their predecessors in various sectors of the state.

In a speech read by the Director of Administration and Supply, Ministry of Youth Development, Mr Anthony Isonguyo, the Governor assured the corps members of the state’s hospitality, the accommodating and peaceful nature of residents, urging them to integrate fully into their host communities, respect their customs and traditions while while contributing to their development.

Governor Eno, while urging them to accept their posting in good faith and make efforts to settle down quickly at their places of primary assignment, enjoined the corps members to engage with them in ways that foster mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation.

The Governor encouraged the corps members to discharge their duties with diligence, dedication and serve as good ambassadors of the nation while contributing meaningfully to nation building.

“You will, therefore, be expected to play pivotal roles in sensitising our people on their obligatory roles in ensuring an egalitarian and prosperous nation. I received encouraging reports of your exemplary conduct and cooperation with camp officials, I commend you for this and encourage you to sustain this attitude, loyalty and discipline through out your service year and beyond.” Governor Eno said.

Governor Eno encouraged them to utilise the skills they acquired during the orientation course to promote entrepreneurship and self-reliance, while leveraging on the leadership qualities and discipline instilled during the orientation programme.

He emphasised the importance of the NYSC scheme in fostering national unity and development, urging the corps members to take their responsibilities seriously.

The Governor warned the corps members not to travel at night, advising that they should board vehicles at government-approved parks.

“Let me admonish you not to travel at night, for whatever reason. Please, find a corps lodge, police station or military barracks to sleep, once it is after 6 pm in the course of your journey. Almost all the lives we have lost in the scheme have been as a result of night travel. The contact of security agencies are in the security guidelines issued to you, use them if the need arises,” he said.

The Governor assured the corps members that the State Government was committed to providing necessary support to ensure a productive and rewarding service year in the state.
