The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill of ₦1,584,271,856,630.00 trillion.

The 2026 budget, which consists of N416,594,925,850.00 billion for recurrent expenditure and N1,167,676,930,780.00 trillion for capital expenditure, was passed on Tuesday, December 30, following the presentation of the report of Dr. Itorobong Etim, Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

The member representing the Oruk Anam state constituency, who is also the Deputy Chief Whip of the Assembly, Mr Sampson Idiong, moved a motion to receive the report. The motion was seconded by Lawrence Udoide and supported by the entire house.

During the presentation of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation’s report on the bill titled “A Bill for a Law to Appropriate Monies out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund and Capital Development Fund to the Services of the Government of Akwa Ibom State and for Other Matters Connected Therewith,” Dr Itorobong Etim noted that Governor Umo Eno had submitted a total budget proposal of N1.390 trillion for the 2026 financial year on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

This figure, according to her, reflects a 16% decrease compared to the approved revised budget of N1.650 trillion for 2025.

Following some adjustments, the committee recommended that the House approve a total budget outlay of N1,584,271,856,630.00 trillion, made up of N416,594,925,850.00 billion allocated for recurrent expenditure and N1,167,676,930,780.00 trillion allocated for capital expenditure.

Additionally, the committee proposed an increase of N61,728,000,000.00 billion for recurrent expenditure and N132,543,856,630.00 billion for capital expenditure, resulting in a total adjustment of N194,271,856,630.00.

The bill was subsequently read and adopted clause by clause by the Committee of Supply, chaired by the Speaker, Elder Udeme Otong.

The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House, Mrs. Nsikak-Abasi Orok, to send a clean copy of the bill to Governor Umo Eno for his assent.

Speaker Otong, commended the lawmakers for their dedication and teamwork, which ensured the timely passage of the budget.
Meanwhile To ensure efficiency in the state fire service, Akwa Ibom State house of Assembly has Urged the state Governor , Pastor Umo Eno, to order the immediate restructuring and reorganization of the Akwa Ibom State Fire Service

The resolution of the house followed the adoption of prayer one and two of the motion titled ” URGENT NEED FOR THE TOTAL RESTRUCTURING OF THE AKWA IBOM STATE FIRE SERVICE AND PROVISION OF MODERN
EQUIPMENT TO COMBAT FIRE DISASTERS IN THE STATE brought by the member representing ONNA State Constituency, Elder Sunday Johnny.

Elder Johnny in the motion noted that the Akwa Ibom State Fire Service was established to protect lives and property by providing prompt response to fire outbreaks and other emergencies within the State, adding that Over the years, the Service has suffered neglect, leaving it poorly equipped, understaffed, and unable to effectively discharge its statutory duties.

The Onna lawmaker stressed that Given the pace of urban development, industrial growth, and
population increase in Akwa lbom State, the absence of a modern, well-equipped,
and responsive Fire Service poses serious risks to public safety and economic stability.

The house unanimously Called on the Governor to provide modern and up-to-date firefighting equipment, including functional fire trucks, water tankers, breathing apparatus,communication gadgets, protective gear, and other logistics to all fire stations for effective and timely emergency response.

The Speaker of the house Elder Udeme Otong mandated the Clerk Mrs Nsikakabasi Orok to communicate the resolution of the house to the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno.
