The Swali Community in Yenagoa Local Government Area is in jubilant mood following the inauguration of a solar powered twenty-thousand-liter borehole water facility at the Government Science and Technical College located in the domain.

On the occasion held at the school premises in the suburbs of the State capital, community members and school management expressed gratitude to the Bayelsa Government and the Education Development Trust Fund for solving the water challenge in the institution.

The Chairman of the Swali Community Development Committee, Mr. James Dankaba and the Principal of the Government Science and Technical College, Mr. Pedro Igbudu took turns to appreciate the State government and the EDTF for the provision of the water project as the excited students put up a dance performance to show their gratitude.

Before inaugurating the project, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Gentle Emelah, whose message was delivered by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Simon Peter-Okene hinted that while the facility at Swali was the 11th that had come on stream, more water projects were being constructed by the EDTF.

Chairman of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Dr. Charles Daniel who stated that the Legislature was pleased with the execution of the water projects, enjoined the EDTF to extend it to more rural communities.

Executive Secretary of the Bayelsa Education Development Trust Find, Dr. Alice Atuwo and the Acting Chairman of the EDTF Board, Professor Francis Sikoki said the facility was in line with the directives of Governor Douye Diri to provide water and ancillary amenities for the new Technical Colleges to begin boarding activities and improve the learning environment of students in public schools.

High point of the ceremony was the handover of keys to the sickbay and generator house which were other interventions of the EDTF to the Management of the Science and Technical College, Swali.
