The Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, has issued a directive to all registered political parties to boycott the August 30th council polls in Rivers state, calling the election process illegal and unconstitutional.

IPAC has warned RSIEC against holding elections under emergency rule, calling it a mockery of democracy. In a letter dated August 1st, signed by National Chairman Dr. Yusuf Dantalle and Secretary Maxwell Mgbudem, IPAC stated that RSIEC is illegally formed, as only an elected governor and the House of Assembly, both currently suspended, can appoint its members.

IPAC noted that the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, was appointed to restore order, not to conduct elections. Reacting to this, the IPAC Secretary in Rivers State, Benjamin Ogbogbula, told newsmen that political party chairmen in the state are still consulting with their national leadership regarding the directive to
boycott the August 30 local government elections.
