The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Delta State Council. Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku has applauded the bold step taken by the Delta State Governor; Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori towards defraying the outstanding pension arrears owed retirees in the state.
Comrade Ofobruku in a statement in Asaba, described the recent approval by the Delta State Governor for immediate release of N10 billion to clear outstanding pension arrears, as a remarkable demonstration of his inclination to the welfare of the state workforce and retirees alike.
According to him, the governor’s magnanimity, which finds expression in his various workers friendly policies and programmes in the past two years of his administration, is a clear indication of his love for Delta workers, saying the gesture needs to be appreciated and reciprocated by all who meant well for the state.
Ofobruku stated further, ”Let me first commend our pragmatic and worker- friendly Governor for the giant strides of his administration, particularly for the payment of ₦36.4 billion in pensions so far, since he assumed office and other commendable workers- related gestures that have reignited confidence among the workforce.”
He said, ” Your Excellency , we were overwhelmed by this gesture, though not surprising given your track record of effective and cordial government /workers ‘ relationship since you came on board over two years ago”
”As a union, the NLC in the state will continue to collaborate with your administration in attending to the needs and welfare of workers and retirees in the state by forging a renewed bond ”
Comrade Ofobruku, who commended Governor Oborevwori for the courageous step towards ameliorating the sufferings of retirees, urged Bureau for State Pensions and pension administrators to ensure judicious and urgent disbursement to the affected retirees.
