The Federal Government has ordered the termination of the contract for the Port Harcourt- Aba Expressway being handled by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, CCECC over failure to adhere to approved specification.

Already, the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi has ordered the issuance of a 14 day notice of the termination of the contract while inspecting the Aba bound section of the road project.

Senator Dave Umahi while inspecting the 43 kilometers Port Harcourt Aba Expressway berated the method of the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, CCECC, which they put binder course over a stretch of 30 kilometers without wearing course on the road project.

The Minister stated that after several letters of warning to the Contracto, he had to take action to protect the lives of Nigerians who will bear the brunt of a failed road network.

Senator Umahi therefore urged the Federal Controller of Works in Rivers State, Mrs Tarilade Ewerema to scout for indigenous contractors that would begin the Port Harcourt bound section of the road which has been descoped.

He also instructed CCECC to mill out binders on the failed sections of the road and replace them at their own cost.

The Minister of Works vowed to shutdown all the projects carried out by the contractor across the country and arrest the expatriate workers on site if they fail to maintain the road.

Senator Umahi further added that he would not allow any contractor to sabotage the good works carried out under President Bola Tinubu’s Administration.
