In commemoration of Nigeria’s Democracy Day, Cross River State Governor, Prince Bassey Otu has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to upholding the tenets of democracy and delivering tangible benefits to the people of Cross River State.

He also extended his congratulations to President Bola Tinubu, GCFR; Vice President, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, GCON, and Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, on this significant occasion.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gill, Governor Otu said Democracy Day provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the nation’s democratic journey and renew their dedication to its core principles.

“As Governor of Cross River State, I am committed to ensuring that our State not only upholds these principles but also reaps the rewards that a thriving democracy can provide for its citizens,” he stated.

Highlighting the importance of citizen participation, accountability, and inclusive governance, the Governor pointed out that democracy is a system of government that guarantees fundamental human rights, equality, and the rule of law.

 “My administration is dedicated to fostering an environment where citizens can freely express themselves, where transparency and accountability are paramount, and where governance is inclusive and responsive to the needs of all,” Governor Otu affirmed.

The Governor further assured the people of Cross River State that his administration remains focused on improving their quality of life through investments in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, as well as by creating a supportive environment for businesses to flourish, stressing that “these are essential elements of a vibrant democracy that empowers its citizens.”

Governor Otu also called on the citizens of Cross River State to actively participate in upholding democratic norms by engaging in civic duties, holding leaders accountable, and promoting peaceful dialogue.

He maintained that “together, we can build a more inclusive and prosperous Cross River State” adding that “as we celebrate Democracy Day, let us remember that democracy is an ongoing process that requires the commitment and active participation of every citizen.”

Governor Otu pledged that his administration would remain dedicated to upholding democratic principles and delivering the benefits of democracy to the people of the State.
