A homeless widow from Nsukara Offot community in Uyo Local Government area of Akwa Ibom state, Mrs Comfort Okon Ekpenyong has called on state government and spirited individuals to come to her aid.
Mrs Comfort Okon Ekpenyong who until her husband’s death was living comfortably, said her in-laws seized and sold most of the husband properties on the ground that she has only female children.
According to her, she made a ditched house in the small piece of land where she used to do business before her husband’s death as a shelter for her and her 3 female children. She said heavy wind and rain pulled down the house and they started staying inside the kitchen made of small bamboo with no roof.
Mrs Comfort explained that a neighbour asked her to live in his incompleted building of which she stayed until the owner asked her to vacate the house.
She said she returned to her shackles to stay until last year when a man who knew her late husband gave her one room to only come to sleep at night.
Mrs Comfort however call on the compassionate Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno and spirited individuals to help her put a structure in the remaining piece of the land left by her late husband to provide comfortable accommodation to her and her family
Meanwhile,The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) appealed to the Akwa Ibom State Government, corporate organizations, and well-meaning individuals to: assist in providing her and her children with a decent place of abode
The Akwa Ibom State NAWOJ led by it’s Chairperson, Comrade Nsikak Okon who visited the widow further appeal to government to Secure the widow’s remaining land from further encroachment
NAWOJ emphasized that urgent intervention would help restore dignity and stability to Mrs. Ekpeyong’s family.
