As part of events to commemorate the 2025 World Breastfeeding Day, the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady in Akwa Ibom, Lady Helen Obareki has distributed maternity kits to expectant mothers in Ikot Abasi.

The event in collaboration with the Ibom Open Maternity Project, and Carelife Foundation under the theme “Strengthening Local and Sustainable Systems to Promote Effective Breastfeeding for Healthier Mother’s and Children” was held at the Primary School, Ikot Akan in ikot Abasi Local Government Area.

Lady Obareki, who is the chairman, Board of Trustees of the Golden Initiative for All, GIFA, explaiined that the gesture was part of a sustained intervention designed to provide expectant mothers with essential care during pregnancy, in line with God’s purpose of procreation.

Represented by the Special Assistant to the Governor on General Duties, Pastor Anne Abraham, Lady Obareki emphasized the role of mothers in raising healthier generations, highlighting the need to address the challenges women face during pregnancy.

She used the occasion to condemn all acts of Gender-Based Violence, GBV, warning that anyone caught would face the full wrath of the law.

The wife of the Chairman of Ikot Abasi Local Government Council, Mrs. Ime Essien, lauded Lady Obareki for her timely support to expectant mothers, by equipping them with essential delivery requirements.

She dispelled myths surrounding pregnancy and advised women to prepare themselves psychologically, financially and emotionally ahead of delivery.

Beneficiaries and community leaders poured encomiums on the First Lady Designate for championing the well-being of pregnant women, describing them as “the living vessels carrying the next generation of leaders.
