Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC has reaffirmed commitment towards education to enhance human capacity development.

Deputy Director Education, Health and Social services, NDDC, Mrs. Florence Ediagboaya made this known during a sensitization rally in Port Harcourt Rivers State as part of activities marking International Literacy Day.

Mrs. Ediagboaya who was emphatic about educational investment made by the commission, noted that NDDC has sustained Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship programme over the years and has expanded the scope to accommodate local scholarship.

She noted that NDDC has built Hostels in different tertiary institutions, constructed class rooms, donated desks and other facilities in many schools and different communities across Niger Delta Region.

” We cannot count it all, is it giving out grants to students that are in need, NDDC is there, is it giving out of books to students that are in needs , NDDC is there, In the recent past, NDDC gave out educational tablets to students in the region, the evidence is everywhere.”

On the importance of the observance, the Deputy Director described literacy as being crucial to human development and peace.

“Literacy is the bedrock of development, it is a fundamental human right. Every human being on earth is supposed to be literate.
when we are talking about literacy, we are talking about the basics, that is reading, writing, ability to talk, ability to communicate.
You will agree with me that when you educate someone, you are invariably educating the nation.
So, we don’t want people of Niger Delta to be left out.”

Mrs. Ediagboaya called on people of the region to prioritize education.

The rally took off from NDDC Headquarters, went through Agrey Road, diverted to Aba Road, entered Bank Road, continued through Moscow Road and returned to the commission.
Officers of Federal Road Safety Corps were on hand throughout the movement to guarantee the safety of participants.
