
The NEMA Uyo Operations Office, in collaboration with the Red Cross and LGA Leaders conducted a direct distribution of relief materials to persons/ communities affected by erosion/flood disasters in Ikot Abasi/Mkpat Enin/Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State.
The distribution exercise, which was held at the Ikot Abasi Local Government Town Hall to ensure orderly coordination, was attended by officials of the different LGAs of the Federal Constituency, including the House Member Hon. Uduak Udodoh, Security Agencies.
In her opening remarks, the Head of Operations, Aisueni Mmandu, speaking on behalf of the DG NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, and ably represented by Afangide Enenwan, Assistant Chief Verification Officer, sympathized with the affected persons. She encouraged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the relief items and also emphasized the importance of proactive disaster risk reduction measures. She further reassured them of NEMA’s unwavering commitment to timely and effective disaster response.
In his remarks, Hon. Uduak Alphonsus Udodoh appreciated the Federal Government and NEMA for the intervention, noting that the relief materials would provide much needed succour to the constituents affected by the disasters.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Comfort Ekpotu and Monday Isiaha expressed profound gratitude to the Federal Government and NEMA for the prompt response and release of the relief materials.
The relief materials distributed included: rice, garri, spaghetti, vegetable oil, seasoning cubes, tomato paste and iodized salt.
