
The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Obo Effanga, has confirmed that all 32 Continuous Voter Registration(CVR) centres in Akwa Ibom, located at the State headquarters and the 31 INEC LGA offices , are open for the commencement of phase 2 of the nationwide CVR exercise.
Mr Effanga also cautioned those who completed their registration in the phase 1 of the exercise, which ended on December 10th , 2025, not to indulge in double registration by seeking to register in another location. He equally warned those whose names were on the register as at the 2023 general election not to register again.
A statement signed by INEC Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Bukola Ojeme and made available to journalists in Uyo, noted that, the Resident Electoral Commissioner had earlier directed all Electoral Officers in a memo, “to ensure that all registration centres are opened by 9am on Monday January 5.”
“I am pleased to report that following my earlier directive, all 32 Registration Centres located at the State headquarters and 31 INEC LGA offices opened for business by 9 am today, signaling the commencement of phase 2 of the nationwide CVR exercise in Akwa Ibom” the Resident Electoral Commissioner stated.
The REC therefore urged eligible citizens who have not registered before now to take advantage of commencement of phase 2 to enroll their names in the national register of voters, emphasizing that, phase 2 of the exercise provides opportunity for citizens who could not register during phase 1 to do so now.
Effanga further assured that all registration centres in the State will open between the hours of 9am and 3 pm daily except on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner also drew attention to provisions of Section 23 of the Electoral Act 2022, on Offences Relating to Register of Voters, which prescribes penalties against engaging in double registration, attempt to induce registration officers, giving false information to registration officers, and disruption of registration exercise, among others.
He emphasized that citizens eligible to participate in the ongoing CVR include those who have attained the age of 18 years and above and have not registered before; those needing to replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Card( PVCs); voters wishing to transfer their registration to a new location; persons who wish to correct/update their voter information, such as name and address.
