The Rivers State House of Assembly has halted the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Deputy Governor, Ngozi Odu, following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention.

The House moved the motion to halt the impeachment process on Thursday at its resumed sitting in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Speaker of the Assembly, Martin Amaewhule informed the house that the withdrawal of the impeachment proceedings followed the fatherly intervention of President Bola Tinubu.

He also informed the house that all court cases filed by the Governor, his deputy and the Rivers State House of Assembly have been withdrawn.

The state had been on the edge of a political precipice, but the involvement of the Presidency appears to have finally forced a retreat.

The Assembly leadership noted that the decision was necessary to prevent further breakdown of law and order in the state.

This latest development is the result of a marathon reconciliation process brokered by President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa Abuja.
