The Rivers State Anti-Quackery Committee has sealed off a private maternity facility in Borokiri following the reported death of a patient after surgery.
The team, led by Dr. Vincent Wachukwu, paid an unscheduled visit to Standard Maternity Clinic, located at No. 2 Captain Amangala Street, after media reports linked the death of Mrs. Victoria Paris to a caesarean section conducted at the facility. The clinic, run by Mrs. Comfort Etuk, was discovered to be a 3-bedroom apartment converted into a 6-bed maternity ward without any licensed nurses.
Investigators found that surgeries were being conducted by auxiliary staff in what they described as a poorly equipped and substandard environment.
