A delegation from the South South Zonal Office of the Federal Ministry of Sports, led by Zonal Coordinator Mr. Njoku Peter, has expressed satisfaction with the readiness of Akwa Ibom State to host the South South Youth Games elimination tournament scheduled for this weekend.

The inspection team, received by the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Sports, toured several key sporting facilities in Uyo, including the West Itam Sports Centre, QIC Secondary School, Community Secondary Commercial School, Aka Community Secondary School, Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, and Uyo Township Stadium, the latter set to host male and female football matches.

Director of Sports, Mrs. Bridgid Otton, conducted the facility tour, after which Mr. Peter commended the state for meeting competition standards.

“We have toured the venues and can confirm that Akwa Ibom is fully ready. All the facilities are in good shape and condition,” he said.

The delegation rounded off their visit with a courtesy call on the Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, who assured that all logistics for the games were in place. He disclosed that a high-powered committee had been constituted to ensure smooth organisation before, during, and after the tournament.

Elder Bassey credited Governor Umo Eno for the state’s sports revival, noting that the governor’s blueprint for sports development predated his assumption of office.

“We have received tremendous support from His Excellency in his determination to make sports a cardinal pillar of the ARISE Agenda, creating opportunities for the teeming youth population,” he stated.

The delegation included Assistant Zonal Coordinator Mr. David Ogunjimi and Zonal Staff Mrs. Okoi Christiana. The visit, which ended with a group photograph with the commissioner and ministry officials, underscored Akwa Ibom’s commitment to delivering a world-class elimination tournament that will spotlight the region’s young athletic talent.
