Proper Knowledge of Africa’s history and foundation has been identified as a medium through which Africans can obtain freedom from Mental Slavery which has set the Indigenes of the Continent on a backward pedestal despite global development.
This was the position of Stakeholders who spoke at the 2025 Reggae Day with the theme “Emancipate Yourself From Mental Slavery” held at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.
The event which brought together lovers of Reggae music and believers in the emancipation of Africa by Africans saw Nollywood Actor Dr. Sam Dede express his thoughts on ways young Africans can implement the message of freedom embedded in Bob Marley’s Music. For him Reggae Music and the insignia holds deeper meaning for emancipation of the Land of Africa.
The Head of Political Science Department, Professor Christian Akani said the Bob Marley Music gives hope that Africa will be united in confronting Mental Slavery and other developmental issues affecting the continent.
Giving his address, A Reggae enthusiast Razz OAU explained that mental freedom is a state of the mind and Africans must believe that they have what it takes to deliver themselves from every form of challenge affecting the continent. He urged Nigerians to accept the uniqueness and learn to grow their talents.
One of the Organizers of the 2025 Reggae Day, Peter Osisi noted that the event was borne out of a course work which focused on the Pan-Africanism and Emancipation from Slavery.
Highlights of the Event included a brief Biography of Robert Bob Nesta Marley, Display of Reggae Music and Insignias.
