Reverend Sisters of the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent De Paul have taken to the streets in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State during which they called on Government at all levels have been called upon to create more job opportunities for the youths to reduce the rising prevalence of human trafficking.
The sisters were joined by other participants who displayed various placards saying that the major reasons fueling the ugly trend of human trafficking includes poverty, greed, pair pressure among others
An official of nabtib at the Miss Ledo Deedu who joined the rally told newsmen that to fight the scurge of human trafficking, parents guardians must take proper care of their children
She noted that the scurge is becoming a major problem in the society with traffickers constantly uping their antics leveraging on the high poverty rate among the youths
The team lead, daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul, Rev Sr Patricia Amadi, who described victims of human trafficking as poor and vulnerable, painted out that the fight against the scurge should be a collective one.
According to her, religious bodies as well as traditional institutions must join the fight against the menace, adding that trafficking in person is against the laws of God.
Some women leaders in the area commended daughters of Charity and NABTIB for the awareness campaign, pledging to encourage other to be on the lookout for traffickers and their agents
Similarly, Some youths who took part in the rally noted that if government can put adequate policies in place for youths, the scurge will reduce drastically
The rally which was at the instance of Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul was aimed at educating rural dwellers on how to recognize human trafficking.
