NDDC SIGNS MOU WITH IMO STATE GOVERNMENT ON CONSTRUCTION OF THREE ABANDONED ROADS IN THE STATE

The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC and Imo State Government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, on the construction of Avu-Adapalm – Etekuru to Ogba/Egbema and two other abandoned Roads in the state.
Signing the MoU at the Executive Chamber of Imo State Government, the State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma acknowledged the commitment of NDDC towards the development of Niger Delta Region.
The residents of the area and Imo State in General will not forget the present administration of Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC in a hurry for collaborating with Imo State Government in the construction of three Road projects, the Avu -Egbema Road, Umudi -Nkwere Road and Imerewe to Etche Road which have been abandoned for over ten years.
The abandonment of the projects was traceable to the security challenges in the area which became Overwhelming to the contractor who could no longer manage the situation.
Consequent upon that, the State government thought it wise to reach out to NDDC to renegotiate on the way forward.
Speaking during the signing of Memorandum of understanding between NDDC and Imo State Government, the state Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma expressed happiness over the synergy.
Governor Uzodimma who revealed that a join Project monitoring team of NDDC and Imo State will be set up to guarantee quality and timely finishing of the projects, added that the roads would boost economic activities in the locality.
Similarly, the Interim Administrator NDDC, Dr. Effiong Akwa who traced the discovery of the abandonment of the projects to the Forensic audit of the interventionist agency, maintained that all efforts would be made to ensure speedy completion of the projects.
Dr. Akwa who insisted on the commitment of the present administration towards the development of Niger Delta Region, appreciated the support of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and President Muhammadu Buhari in repositioning the commission.
The Interim Administrator commiserated with Imo State Government over the fire incident at Egbema/Ohaji where many lives were lost.
High point of the event was inspection of the ongoing Avu-Adapalm – Etekuru to Ogba/Egbema road.
