NOWA PERFORMS GROUND BREAKING FOR INTERNATIONAL SHOPPING  MALL IN BOROKIRI RIVERS STATE

Residents of Rivers State especially women have been encouraged to venture into Entrepreneurship to improve their economic well-being. 

The Wife of the Chief of the  Naval Staff, Mrs. Aisha Gambo who gave the advice during the foundation stone laying ceremony of Naval Officers Wives, NOWA,  International  Shopping Mall at   Borokiri, Port Harcourt Rivers State, noted that when women are empowered economically, peace is guaranteed at the home front.

Mrs. Gambo who is the National President of NOWA noted that the market was originally planned to be lock up shops but has been elevated to International Shopping Mall with the state-of-the-art facilities to provide more opportunities for women and traders to expand their scope. 

“The initiative to establish the NOWA International Shopping Mall was driven by the need to bequeath the present and generations yet unborn with a sustainable quality enterprise by NOWA, while contributing to national development.”

“To this end, the Mall is modeled to be a multi – dimensional network of departmental stores. This Shopping Mall is also unique as it is birthed through a Public-Private Partnership arrangement.”

“On completion, NOWA members and indeed the community as a whole will enjoy state-of-the-art market environment in addition to access to exceptional business interactions. “

“The mall will also provide comfortable en-suite shops, suitable recreational facilities in an internet enabled and highly secured environment.”

Mrs. Gambino revealed that the Mall will have a Fire service station, abattoir, cold room, warehouse, admin block, bank and a Jetty to serve about sixteen communities within the area. 

Similarly, the Special Guest of Honour, Mrs. Margaret Koshoni who described the project as efforts towards enhancing human empowerment and capacity development for Naval  officers’ wives and women in general, 

maintained that the project will be of great benefit to Rivers women.

While calling on the contractors to keep to the timeline for completion of the project, she appreciated the Chief of the Naval Staff, CNS, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo for supporting NOWA programmes. 

“Accordingly, I welcome our distinguished guests, well-wishers and friends of the NOWA to this occasion here in Borikiri, Rivers State.”

“This worthy endeavour is an affirmation of the National President NOWA, Hajiya Nana Aisha Gambo untiring efforts to upgrade existing infrastructures and develop new ones across the Country in order to improve on the welfare needs of personnel and families as well as other members of the society.”

Mrs. Koshoni applauded Mrs. Gambo for initiating the project and for  visionary leadership. 

In a goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Rivers State, Mrs. Uchechukwu Oriri appreciated Naval hierarchy for choosing to embark on such laudable project in Rivers State and enjoined the residents to leverage on the opportunity. 

The mall that will sit on about four hectares of land, is expected to be completed within eighteen months.
