RESIDENTS, COMMUTERS COMMEND NDDC FOR REHABILITATION OF DAMAGED SECTIONS OF EAST WEST ROAD

Residents and commuters along damaged sections of East West Road, precisely, Ahoada Rivers State, Mbiama Bayelsa State and Umeh Delta State, being rehabilitated by Niger Development Commission, NDDC, have expressed joy over the project. 

Some of the Residents including the paramount Ruler of Igbudia Kingdom Ahoada, His Royal Highness Eze Ikaki  Ikaki appreciated NDDC for the efforts but requested that a bridge be built at the most affected portions to prevent future occurrence. 

The repair works at the damaged sections of East West Road are being handled by Niger Delta Development Commission after the visit of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Obong Umana Umana who directed the commission to restore the road to motorable status. 

To ensure that the rehabilitation becomes a reality, the Acting Managing Director, NDDC, Dr. Emmanuel Audu – Ohwavborua immediately mobilized SETRACO Construction Company to site to put the road back in usable condition.

Reacting to the development, the paramount Ruler of Igbudia kingdom in Ahoada West Local Government Area Rivers State and a resident Mr. Clement John expressed happiness over the intervention by NDDC. 

They noted that the repair works restored business and movement between Rivers State and other States but requested that a bridge be built across the most affected area.

Similarly, at Umeh Town in Isoko West Local Government Area Delta State, both motorists and residents including Clinton Idu, Emmanuel Uka and Alex Ifere who called for closer monitoring of contractors handling the job, decried the devastating effect of the flood in the locality.

Meanwhile, the Project Manager of the construction company handling the job, Mr. Mitshel Isaa said that the work has advanced as part of the road has been made motorable and opened to road users. 

Mr. Mitshel expressed optimism of timely and quality finishing on the Road.
