About two hundred youths and women have graduated from Agency Banking skill acquisition programme embarked upon by Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC in conjunction with a non-governmental organization, NGO, Empowerment Support Initiative, ESI.

Speaking during the event, the Acting Managing Director, NDDC, Dr. Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua described the training as measures adopted by Niger Delta Development Commission and Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Obong Umana Umana to lift people out of poverty in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s agenda of taking millions out of poverty across the country.  

The Acting MD who charged the beneficiaries to see themselves as entrepreneurs and employers of labour, encouraged them to extend the gesture to others.

According to him, NDDC engages in capacity building because, the real essence of life is to empower people and provide a veritable platform for self-sustenance.

In the same vein, the founder of the NGO, and wife of former Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi represented by former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Joeba West Who emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship, acknowledged that the support from NDDC has sustained the training over the years.

She appreciated the Interventionist Agency for transforming the lives of the people of the region through infrastructural Development and human capacity building.  

Two of the beneficiaries, Mr. Edehope Chiwe, and Beauty Joseph who described the training as a life transforming experience noted that NDDC has provided them with the needed tools to succeed.

The beneficiaries promised to make judicious use of the knowledge and train others. 

High point of the event was presentation of certificates and starter packs to beneficiaries by Acting Managing Director, NDDC.
