 Managing Director Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku has challenged University of Port Harcourt, other higher institutions in the Niger Delta region and the nation in general to find out a lasting solution to the perennial flooding issues ravaging the Niger Delta region in particular and the nation at large.

Dr. Ogbuku who gave the Challenge during a working visit and reception at University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT, Rivers State, maintained that efforts were being made to avoid duplication of projects, hence the need to interact with stakeholders before embarking on projects. 

The working visit to the University of Port Harcourt, UNIPOT was more of a home coming for the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC,  Dr. Samuel Ogbuku who obtained all his degrees, B.SC, Masters and Doctorate from the school. 

The NDDC MD, who went down memory lane to his days in the institution, appreciated UNIPOT for the knowledge and confidence it bestowed on him to be able to tackle life and leadership challenges. 

While emphasizing the importance of research as a leeway to societal problems, he told the the school management of readiness of NDDC to collaborate in the area of research to find solutions to flood and health challenges facing humans and environment. 

The managing Director who stated that management was determined to focus on monumental projects across Niger Delta region, insisted on doing things in a different way to lift the agency and the region to greater heights. 

The Chief Executive Officer of the interventionist agency stressed the importance of making the agency business inclined which has led to engagement of various partnership and investment opportunities. 

He gave assurance that the commission would uplift the status of infrastructure in the school and advised students to be dedicated to their studies.  

In a Remark, the Pro Chancellor, UNIPORT, 

Senate Andrew Uchendu described Dr. Ogbuku as humble and worthy Ambassador of the University. 

 Earlier in a presentation, the Vice Chancellor, University of Port Harcourt, Professor Georgewill Onwunari appreciated  NDDC for carrying out projects such as  hostel, roads and  sports facilities in the institution but requested that the school still needs more to be able to function optimally. 

 The Vice Chancellor said that as the forth ranked University in the country, the goal of the University is to be the best among institutions of higher learning.

Side attractions of the event were performances from music and Theatre Arts departments during the grand reception.
