FEMALE JOURNALISTS ADVOCATE PASSAGE OF GENDER EQUALITY BILL

A call has been made to the National Assembly for the passage of the Gender equality bill currently on the floor of the Senate.

The call was made by a Keynote speaker at a female Reporters’ leadership program in Port Harcourt, Mrs. Ann Godwin.

Mrs. Godwin who is also a correspondent with the Guardian Newspaper, pointed that the Gender Equality Bill, if passed into Law, will ensure equality of opportunities for the women folk.

Guest Speaker at the event, Director of News, TVC Communications, Mrs. Stella Dim – Jacob, wants female Journalists to move with the trend and make themselves relevant in the News Space.

One of the Panelists, in a session addressing the factors challenging the rise of female Journalists in leading Newsroom, the Assistant Director, News, NTA Port Harcourt Zonal Centre, Mrs. Senam Gbamigboye, decried the situation where female Journalists are assigned week beats, as compared to their male counterparts.

Convener of the program and participant; Report Women, Female Reporters Leadership Fellowship 2023, Karina Igonikon, said it is time to accord Female Journalists the needed support to perform maximally in the pen profession.

The program drew female Journalist across Rivers State and some other Personalities, including a former Commissioner of Information in the State, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari and a Labour Party Chieftain in Rivers State, Hilda Dokubo.
