COMMUNITY WOMEN CALL FOR PRESERVATION OF THEIR CULTURAL HERITAGE

Community women in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State have called for the preservation of Cultural heritage and women inclusion in policy making in the Country.

The women stressed that decadence in the society would be curbed if core traditional values are upheld.

The women maintained that mother tongue, traditional dress and other moral norms should not be allowed to go extinct.

Mrs. Egbure Viola and Mrs. Peace Mgbenwa urged families to teach their children their mother tongue and values that would protect youths from immorality.

The women also decried the situation where they are not consulted in the scheme of affairs in their community.

They stressed that parents should train their male children to respect their sisters and others, making them to share in chores and not seeing it as the duty of the girl child alone.

Also lending his voice to the importance of some traditional norm, an eighty nine year old man in Erema Community, Comrade Ibama Ibegwere said the tradition of consuming organic foods in time past prevented the people from contracting some strange diseases that is common in recent times.

The Erema community dwellers maintained that the rights of persons should be respected, irrespective of sex, age and social status.
