OGBUKU ENJOINS STAFF TO AVOID CORRUPT PRACTICES

Managing Director Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku says the commission has a strong stance against corruption.
Dr. Ogbuku who was represented by Director 11 Human Resources, Mr. Patrick Obayelu made the assertion at NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt while declaring open a sensitization exercise with the theme, understanding the offences and penalties under the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC ACT, 2000.
The managing director noted that the exercise was organized to remind staff of the consequences of engaging in illegal transactions.
In a lecture, the Head Legal, ICPC Rivers State Office, Dr. Okogwu Agada expressed reservations over the level of ignorance by public servants on the contents of ICPC ACT.
DR. Agada who quoted different sections of the act named some of the notable offences to include, Accepting or demanding gratifications by public servants, fraudulent receipt of funds without carrying out projects for which it was meant, inflating contract sum, using ones personal company to execute projects in his or her agency among others.
The Resource person who explained that punishment for many of the offences range between three and seven years, added that the punishments are custodial sentencing, meaning there are no options of fine.
