Water producers have frowned at the sale of one or two sachets of water at fifty naira describing it as extremely exploitative of retailers.

The Chairman of Association of Table Water Producers Rivers State, Pastor Oke Okafor who stated this on the occasion of World Water Day in Port Harcourt said it is highly condemnable that a bag of water their members sell at three hundred naira is retailed to produce over seven hundred naira profit.

Pastor Okafor  said although the price of materials for production had gone up, their members were still managing to stay afloat warning that producers would consider selling directly to consumers if sellers do not reduce the price.

On Water Storage, Pastor Okafor advised retailers to stop storing water in the sun describing it as very unhealthy; a situation he said impacts negatively on all fluids including yoghurts.

The Chairman, Association of Table Water Producers Rivers State, said the maximum shelf life for sachet water is three months and one year for bottled water.

He reassured members of the public of optimal hygiene in their factories stating that their factories and water channels are duly inspected and certified by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control NAFDAC.

On the theme of World Water Day 2024 which is Water for Peace, Pastor Okafor advised that water should not be used as a tool for politics as it could result in conflicts.
