Oshimili South Local Government Council in Delta State says it has supported primary healthcare activities in the area with over ten million naira.

Executive Chairman of the council, Dr Obi Kelvin Ezenyili stated this when a delegation of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Delta State visited the council secretariat in Asaba in continuation of projects assessment in local government areas for the past one year.

Dr Ezenyili who described the initiative as a demonstration of his administration’s
commitment to providing adequate health care services to the people, said the council was set to renovate primary health care centres across the local government area.

He hinted that Oshimili South Local Government Council had been fully involved in adequate sensitization exercises, participation and monitoring of diseases such as neglected tropical diseases, Lassa fever, Cholera, measles and administration of vaccines and micronutrients supplements to people living in the communities.

The Oshimili South Local Government Council Boss highlighted the infrastructural projects executed by his administration to include construction and commissioning of Oko Event Centre, Oko; ground breaking and completion of open stalls in the new modern foodstuff market in Cable Point Area, Asaba ; construction and completion of the Oshimili South Local Government Plaza (Burnt Old Ogbegonogo Market) Asaba ;construction and 60% completion of a new Administrative Secretariat Office Complex ;Provision of a 150 KVA generator for the Secretariat ;Provision of a 500 KVA transformer to residents of Okuelegu Street, Asaba ; acquisition of 3 acres of land for the provision of a cemetery on a public-private partnership ; ground breaking of an ultra-modern event centre at the Council Old Arcade Ground, Asaba.

He stated further, ”During the period in focus, this administration flagged off a 50 million naira (Fifty Million Naira) Empowerment Program benefiting 500 youths of Oshimili South Local Government Area, with each beneficiary receiving the sum of 100 thousand naira only. The ripple effect is a rise in small scale businesses which has fostered entrepreneurship and created economic independence across households with overwhelming testimonies”

Continuing, Dr Ezenyili said, ”As part of our policy to foster youth empowerment and digital transformation, we had introduced an advanced digital skill acquisition program which is the first of its kind in the State and to achieve this, we partnered the founder of DESIGN AFRICA, Amb. Jerry Fuludu Ogheneakaro, a Tech Expert to embark on a comprehensive training of youths cut across the 11 wards of the Local Government Area”

”This training will be in phases with the first phase involving the training and empowerment of 23 youths from the 11 wards of the Local Government for a period of 5 months to acquire high demand digital skills in Web Development ;3D Animation &Motion Graphics ;Video Editing ;Graphic and Magazines Design”

While enumerating the challenges facing Oshimili South Local Government Area” to include inter state and cross border criminal movements, proliferation of drug dens, invasion of Oko community by criminal herdsmen, youths vulnerability and recruitment by criminal networks , the council chairman said his administration had adopted several workable measures to tackle insecurity and criminalities in the area.

These measures, according to him, included the creation of a security trust fund; the establishment of a security taskforce, provision of vehicles, motorcycles and surveillance gadgets to security agencies and vigilantes ; installation of CCTV cameras, raiding of drug dens, and unveiling of emergency security short code number 7745.which is toll free.

Chairman of the Delta State Council of NUJ, Comrade Churchill Oyowe who led the team of journalists on tour of the ongoing administrative building complex and other projects executed by the Oshimili South Local Government Council, was taken round by the Vice Chairman of the council along other top functionaries .

Comrade Oyowe said, ” We are doing this assessment of projects executed by local government councils by interfacing with council chairmen to have on the spot assessment of how their administrations have fared in the past one year. We have been to Bomadi, Warri South, and Udu”
