The Executive Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area, Godwin Ogorugba, has launched an immediate intervention to tackle the persistent flooding at Alah Square in Ozoro, ordering the removal of illegal structures obstructing drainage channels.

During an inspection of the flood-prone area, the chairman directed that all caravans and temporary structures erected on drainage paths be removed without delay, describing the illegal developments as a major cause of the recurring flooding.

Ogorugba assured residents that his administration is determined to find a permanent solution to the problem through collaboration with relevant government agencies, stakeholders and community leaders.

He said the council would implement sustainable flood control measures to protect lives, property and the environment.

As part of the emergency response, the chairman instructed the Supervisor for Agriculture and Community Development, Thomas Akpoedafe, and the Supervisor for Environment, Joshua Alebe, to immediately commence remedial works to ease the flooding. He also directed them to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the drainage network and recommend practical, long-term measures to prevent future flooding.

Emphasising the importance of environmental discipline, Ogorugba warned against indiscriminate construction on drainage channels, stressing that strict enforcement of environmental sanitation laws and building regulations remains crucial to effectively addressing flooding across the local government area.

The inspection team included the Secretary to the Council, Vote Umuakpo; Senior Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman, Erero Jacob Oloku; Supervisors Thomas Akpoedafe and Joshua Alebe; the Chairman’s Personal Assistant, Isaiah Omoyibo; Director of Protocol, Jude Ogwologho; and other government officials.
