The newly renovated Otor-Igho Community Market in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State came alive with celebration on Wednesday as traders and residents showered praises on the council chairman, Hon. (Elder) Prince Godwin Ogorugba, for transforming the once-dilapidated market into a modern and more conducive business hub.
Songs, dancing and jubilant cheers filled the market when Ogorugba visited the facility during his inspection of completed and ongoing projects across the local government. Market women and community members described the renovation and landscaping of the market as a major milestone that has restored hope and dignity to their businesses.
For years, traders struggled with poor infrastructure and an unconducive trading environment. However, the comprehensive facelift has significantly improved the market’s outlook, creating a cleaner, safer and better organised space for commercial activities.
Speaking on behalf of the traders, Mrs. Florence Oyibu described Ogorugba as a “God-sent” leader whose administration has demonstrated genuine concern for the welfare of the people.
She said the upgraded market has renewed the confidence of traders, encouraged business growth and attracted more customers.
“Chairman, you have changed our story. Our market women are happy because we can now carry out our businesses in a clean, safe and conducive environment. Your administration has restored hope to us, and we pray that God will continue to strengthen and bless you,” she said.
Mrs. Oyibu also reaffirmed the support of the market women for the Ogorugba administration and pledged their backing for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections.
Responding, Ogorugba expressed appreciation for the warm reception, describing the traders’ commendation as a strong motivation to sustain his administration’s people-oriented development agenda.
He reaffirmed his commitment to delivering critical infrastructure that will stimulate economic growth, improve livelihoods and accelerate development across the 13 wards of Isoko North.
The council chairman explained that the renovation of the Otor-Igho Community Market is part of a broader vision to modernise public facilities, empower local businesses and create an enabling environment for commerce to thrive.
According to him, more impactful projects have been lined up as his administration enters its third year, assuring residents that no community will be left behind in the council’s development drive.
“The confidence our people have continued to repose in this administration inspires us to do even more. We will continue to execute projects that have direct and lasting impact on the lives of our people and ensure that every ward benefits from meaningful development,” Ogorugba said.
The Otor-Igho market renovation is one of several infrastructure projects executed by the Ogorugba administration to strengthen grassroots development, enhance public facilities and stimulate local economic activities across Isoko North.
