Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC has empowered one hundred women in Akwa Ibom State on Digital cum ICT skills and online market access.
Speaking during a-two-day training programme in Uyo Akwa Ibom State, Director Commercial and Industrial Development, Mrs. Lyna Okara explained that the programme was organized to train the women on the usage of online platforms to enhance their businesses.
Mrs. Okara expressed confidence that with digital exposure, the women would be able to expand their reach through online market access, as well as expose their businesses to global clients and opportunities.
She encouraged the beneficiaries to extend the knowledge to their neighbours and communities.
Similarly , Akwa Ibom State Director, Mr. Evong Evong expressed optimism that the content of the training equipped even those who were ignorant of digital platforms to learn how to leverage it.
Mr. Evong believed that the positive Impacts
of the empowerment would be huge on the economy of the state within a short time.
A facilitator who took the women on Digital literacy and ICT skills, Mr. Godwin Sunday told them that it was important to have online presence in their businesses, such as online banking apps, email address, unique brand identities, contacts backup using email.
He stated that it was necessary to register their businesses on Google maps for easy tracing by intending clients.
According to the ICT expert, with a brand identity, it would be easier to get grants from government and corporate entities.
He however warned that care should be taken in logging into unknown Links to avoid Internet fraudsters.
Two of the beneficiaries, Miss Assurance Michael and Janet Onobong, while appreciating NDDC for the opportunity, admitted that the exposure would transform their business approaches.
Another beneficiary, Mrs. IMOH Paul acknowledged that the training has changed her business idea and launched her business into digital platforms.
The beneficiaries were given android phones, as part of the empowerment.
Online platforms were also created for the women in their various businesses.
The high point of the event was the presentation of certificates to the participants.
