
The beneficiaries of the Opobo International Charity Day celebration have expressed appreciation to the organizers on the timing and the charitable items distributed to Children, Youths, Men and Women in Communities in Opobo Kingdom.
Speaking to Radio Nigeria, Mrs Silver Humphrey described the medical outreach which formed part of the Charity Day as timely and prayed for the initiative to be sustained to enable more persons to benefit from such kind gestures.
“I feel very good about it, I didn’t have routine drugs so here they gave me free routine drugs while at the pharmacy I will spend much more.”
“Other organizers should try to help their community members especially the old women that don’t have anyone to help them.”

For Senibo Emmanuel Tonifari the event was a welcome development which would bridge the funding gap especially for those who need medical attention but lack the finance to access it.
“I feel great, I feel wonderful that such a program is taking place here in Kalibiama, I’m very proud of the people that are in charge of that have made this possible.”
“You can see our children are all here to receive treatment, I am very happy.”
Describing the Opobo International Charity Day as a way of giving back to society, the Chancellor of Chaplains Club of Opobo, Mr Victor Fubara

“What you are seeing here is what was born 26 years ago. It started small and today we decided that instead of making it for a select few we decided to make it for all the communities.”
“What you are seeing here is a way of giving back to the community, a way of making sure that what we went through, we don’t want our younger ones to go through such hardship.”
A Professor of Pediatrics and Intensive care at the University of Pennsylvania, Professor Iyalla Peterside said his organization participated in the medical outreach and award of scholarships to indigent students.

He noted that 10 indigent students from Opobo have benefitted from the scholarship scheme annually for four years and those in need of medical care are also being taken care of.
“We came here this week as we have done in the last four years to award full time scholarships to students of Opobo Indigenes and to also provide medical outreach.”
“We have an optometrist there doing eye exams, we have physicians there examining them and giving recommendations while we provide medications to support their diagnosis.”
The Opobo International Charity Day which began in 2024 had over Six thousand beneficiaries from Opobo Main town, Kalabiama, Epelema and Queenstown in this year’s celebration.
