A High Court in Rivers State located in Oyigbo Local Government Area has granted an interim order to pause actions related to the impeachment process concerning Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.

The court’s decision today prohibited the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Martins Amaewhule, the House Clerk, and other parties from submitting any letters or documents to the Chief Judge of Rivers State concerning the impeachment process.

The court additionally prohibited the Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi from receiving, evaluating, or responding to any requests, resolutions, or impeachment articles from the defendants aimed at forming a panel to examine the alleged misconduct of the governor and his deputy until further proceedings occur.

The order was granted by Justice F.A. Fiberesima, the presiding judge, while deciding on an ex parte motion in two distinct lawsuits initiated by Governor Fubara and Deputy Governor Odu.

Justice Fiberesima also permitted the claimants to serve the interim order and originating processes in Suit Nos. OYHC/7CS/2026 and OYHC/6/CS/2026, along with subsequent court documents, on the defendants using substituted means at the Rivers State House of Assembly quarters.

The court further ordered that the documents be delivered to the Chief Judge via any staff member at his chambers located within the High Court grounds.

The case has been postponed to 23 January, 2026, for the hearing of the main motion.

On Friday, the Rivers State House of Assembly had in a uninanimous vote vowed to continue with the impeachment impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy.

Meanwhile, the four legislators who had distanced themselves from the impeachment effort changed their stance, pointing to disappointment with the Governor’s reaction to requests for dialogue.
