Force Public Relations Officer, Describes SPU Quarters as Historic

The residential quarters built by Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, for Nigeria Police Special Protection Unit, SPU, Base Six Omagwa, has been described as historic. 

Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, who made the description in an interview with Radio Nigeria in Omagwa expressed confidence that the beneficiaries will be motivated to give their best in the discharge of their duties. 

According to Mr. Mba, comfortable accommodation is a motivation to police officers who risk their lives to ensure adequate security for the people. 

“Is the first time the SPU is having an organized barracks accommodation.”

“Is the first time, the SPU is having a one stop shop , is a one stop shop because, here you have everything you need to function as an SPU base.”

Speaking on the concept of the facility, the Police spokesman noted that the design represents an ideal quarters where the officers can engage in several activities that enhance assignments in the same environment. 

“You have got an office complex; you have got residential accommodation for both the officers as well as the men.”

“You have got a holding cell; you have got an armory that is built to specifics.”

“You have got a parade ground which can also be used for other forms of training, is a massive edifice.”

Similarly, Chairman Ikwere Local Government Area, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike in his reaction said the quarters will bring about drastic reduction in the rate of crimes in the Local Government and State as a whole.

Mr. Nwanosike expressed optimism that building the quarters in the locality will boost economic activities as companies will have the confidence to put up offices within the environment, knowing that security would be guaranteed. 

“It represents improvement in the internal security of Ikwere Local Government Area, improvement in the internal security of Rivers people and protection of both State and Federal facilities within this vicinity.”

On the issue of a substantive board for NDDC, Mr. Nwanosike while acknowledging the efforts of the present administration to reposition the commission condemned politicizing NDDC contacts.

“First of all, I will start by commending the Interim Administrator, these are the kind of leaders we need to have in the Nigeria of today.”

“A leader who has been acknowledged publicly that he has not awarded one project since he came in, rather all abandoned projects by his predecessors are the ones he is intervening and making sure they come to conclusions.”

“It shows he is a sincere leader, enough of using NDDC as a means of raising money for political purposes.”

The Ikwere Local Government boss expressed happiness that the Local government was chosen for the project.
