BAYELSA STATE GOVERNOR PLEDGES SUPPORT TO NDDC

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri has pledged to collaborate with Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC to facilitate infrastructural Development in the state and entire Niger Delta region. 

Governor Diri who made the commitment during a courtesy visit by the management of NDDC noted that synergy between NDDC and governors of Niger Delta extraction would eliminate duplication of projects.

The working visit to Bayelsa State by the management of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC was in continuation of stakeholders’ engagement of the present administration of the agency to integrate state governments and people of the region in the programmes of NDDC.

Speaking in government House Yenagoa while receiving NDDC delegation, Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri acknowledged that project execution in Niger Delta region is challenging because of the swampy terrain, hence the need to partner NDDC. 

Governor Diri who appreciated NDDC for already completed projects in the state however solicited collaboration with the agency to bring to reality major projects in different senatorial districts of Bayelsa State. 

The governor stated that embarking on road projects in coastal communities would promote blue economy of the state. 

In his presentation, Managing Director NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, said that the visit was part of the plans of management to allow different states to come up with projects they would want the interventionist agency to execute, for them to be captured in the budget. 

Dr. Ogbuku who told the governor that Ogbia Nembe road done by NDDC was ready for inauguration, revealed that there are several projects carried out in different states of Niger Delta which are ready for inauguration including 132/33KV transmission station in Okitipupa, Ondo state.

DIRECTOR CAD, DR ABOSEDE AND OTHERS

According to him, the agency has been reaching out to International Oil companies for more partnership in carrying out monumental projects across the region. 

 While emphasizing on the need to venture into sustainable programmes, the Chief Executive Officer of NDDC maintained that youths would be empowered through internship and Entrepreneurship programmes to become self-reliant. 

The managing director was accompanied on the courtesy visit by executive directors and other management staff.
