WOMEN CALL FOR MEASURES AGAINST ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

Women in the Niger Delta Region of the Country have called for inclusion in policy formulation on the environment and the revamping of the refineries for cleaner air in the area.

They made the call on this year’s commemoration of the International Day of Clean air for Blue Skies.

An indigene of one of the oil impacted communities in Korokoro, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State, Mrs. Lezina Patrick Nteptep wants the Government and other stakeholders to involve the women in decision making on environmental protection.

Mrs. Nteptep also called for proper implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act on host Communities by the Multinationals in order to help in the cleanup of oil impacted areas for clean air and blue skies.

Ecological catastrophy

Other women in Mgbuoba, in Obio -Akpor Local Government Area of the State, Mrs. Patience Agoma and Mrs. Ruth Okoro want the Government to put the Refineries in order to check illegal refining which they say could contribute to the pollution of air in the Country.

  The International Day of Clean air for blue skies is an annual observance on 7th September, seeking to enlighten the public on the responsibility by everyone to protect the atmosphere from pollution and to ensure healthy for for all.

The theme for this year’s observance is; “Together for clean air”.
