NDDC EARMARKS FIFTY BILLION NAIRA FOR EMPOWEMENT PROGRAMMES IN NIGER DELTA REGION

Managing Director Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku says the commission has earmarked about   fifty billion naira for empowerment programmes in the region. 

Dr. Ogbuku who made the revelation while playing host to a delegation from Union Bank at NDDC headquarters in Port Harcourt Rivers State, emphasized the need to empower women of Niger Delta extraction to enable them take care of the home front. 

The Managing Director explained that single digit loans would be made available to entrepreneurs of the region to grow their businesses. 

While giving assurance that the business support would be handled by Chamber of Commerce, he maintained that the process would be  devoid of politics.

Speaking earlier, leader of the delegation, and Regional Executive of the bank, Mr. Chidi Ileka who said that they seek partnership with the commission to to empower women of Niger Delta region, stated that their model of training is unique as the beneficiaries are trained according to their skill. 

According to him, they need partnership with NDDC to empower women in small scale businesses  to improve their economic well-being. 

Mr. Ileka said that they intend to train the women to be able to build her business and export their goods to other countries.
