OGONI YOUTHS CALL FOR RESTRUCTURING OF HYPREP

In Commemoration of the death of Ken Saro Wiwa and Nine others, Ogoni Youths under the auspices of Ogoni Joint Leadership have called for the restructuring of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, HYPREP to align with United Nations Environmental Programme recommendations.

The youths who trooped out in their numbers clad in black, carrying placards with inscriptions, called on Hyprep to work in accordance with the mandate it was created for.

The Ogoni Youths who decried the allege abuse of mandate being witnessed at the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project, called on President Bola Tinubu to act swiftly to remedy the situation.

One of the Group’s representative who spoke during a peaceful protest at the Hyprep Office in Port Harcourt, Comrade Dominic Dumekpigi while reading a protest letter issued by the Ogoni Joint Leadership, Said that due process were not followed in the award of contracts by Hyprep and has been turned into a cash cow by a selected few.

Comrade Dumekpigi stated that despite the amount of money allocated for the implementation of United Nations Environmental Programme recommendations, Ogoni people are still drinking contaminated water.

While recieving the Protest letter on behalf of the Hyprep Project Coordinator, the Head of Stakeholders Engagement, Mr. Mkpehe Richard said some of the items captured in the protest letter were already being implemented in communities across Ogoni land.

Mr Richard said youths should utilize the open door policy of Hyprep to get adequate information about their activities.
