Youths of Ogoni ethnic nationality have been urged to show more commitment to the cleanup project in their area by protecting the amenities for the project.
The call was made in Port Harcourt, at an interactive forum between Ogoni youths and the Management of the hydrocarbon pollution remediation Project, HYPREP.
After rendering the Ogoni Anthem to emphasize solidarity to the Ogoni pursuit, youths of the area shared their thoughts on the clean up exercise in the area.
They called on HYPREP to do more in soothing the yearnings of Ogoni people on restoring their environment.
President, National youth Council of Ogoni People, NYCOP; Comrade Barinuazor Emmanuel, Saviour Imeabe and GODSPower Igwe from Eleme, amongst others, called for faster measures from HYPREP in restoring portable water in Sohge, as well as increase in the remuneration for labourers hired for the exercise and increase in the number of youths taken for the training program by the cleanup firm.
President General, Ogoni Association of Persons Living with disabilities, Comrade Ngo Baridapdoo also expressed hope that the disability community will not be left out in the engagement of HYPREP.
While enumerating the efforts and intention of HYPREP to increase the pay for Labour used for the project, the Project Coordinator of HYPREP, Professor Nanibarini Zabbey, promised to regularly interface with the youths of the area to foster teamwork and efficient delivery of the set Project.
HYPREP also maintained that it will continue to carryout needs assessment before embarking on Projects in the area, stressing the extent which it has reached on the livelihood and water project.
High point of the forum was the presentation of a communique jointly signed by youths of Ogoni, stating their willingness to collaborate with HYPREP to achieve the remediation agender.
