NDDC CONFIRMS ONE HUNDRED HECTARES DONATED BY AKWA IBOM COMMUNITY FOR PEOJECT HOPE FARMING

As part of the efforts to tackle food insecurity in Niger Delta Region and country at large, Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC  has secured one hundred hectares of land for agricultural activities in  Itak – ikot Udo in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking during inspection of the land seeded to the commission by Ikak-Ikot Community, Director, Agric and Fisheries NDDC, Mrs. Winifred Madume, explained that the land given to the commission was in lines with second phase of youth empowerment initiative, Christined Project Hope, meant to train and equip about ten thousand unemployed youths. 

Similarly, the lead consultant of the initiative, Holistic Opportunities Programmes and Engagement, Project HOPE, Ambassador Blessing Fubara who was elated over the donation, maintained that enough consultations were done before taking delivery of the land. 

Ambassador Fubara insisted that all those who chose agriculture while entering their details in the database set up for the initiative would be trained.

In a remark, the Village head, Itak-Ikot Community, His Royal Majesty,  HRM,  Chief Daniel Inyang who gave assurance that  the land was free from disputes, said that the community would provide enabling environment for the actualization of the programme. 

Chief Inyang applauded NDDC for bringing the programme to the community, saying it would boost economic activities in the locality. 

The commission has already secured hundred hectares in Rivers, Imo and Bayelsa States for the same purpose.
